2026 Season Review

Our Freestyle Team had 11 athletes this season, with nine competing in U.S. Ski & Snowboard freestyle events. I’m proud to share that all nine qualified for the State Championships at Seven Springs Mountain Resort, including several first-year competitors.

Of those, three advanced to Regionals at Loon Mountain Resort. Madison B. (F11) had an outstanding season, placing in the top 10 in aerials, moguls, and dual moguls in the Young Guns category.

In the Junior Division, Jake M. (M17) earned the Phil Holmes Sportsmanship Award (presented by Holiday Valley Resort) and narrowly missed Top 10 finishes. Parker L. (M13) gained valuable experience competing against older athletes in his first regional event.

Looking ahead, Hugo R. continues at the “A” level, with Jake M. moving up next season. Off-season training includes work at Bristol Mountain Aerials Water Ramp and training opportunities at Mount Hood with Nick Page.

I’m incredibly proud of our athletes and grateful to our families, coaches, and Blue Mountain staff for their continued support. Our program is growing, and the future is bright.

BMR MOGUL TEAM

A little history about the BMR Mogul Team:

The Mogul Program began 11 years ago as an in-house training program designed to teach the fundamentals and basic skills of mogul skiing, while preparing athletes to progress into USSA “B” Mogul events throughout our region.

Since then, the BMR Mogul Team has traveled to compete in the Seven Springs Smackdown event and has continued to expand its competitive schedule with trips to Mount Snow, VT, to participate in the Corinthia Cup—a Central Region moguls competition within our division. Our team continues to grow its competitive presence each season, and this year, we proudly had five athletes qualify for the State Championships.

This achievement is comparable to qualifying for Alpine Derby events. The State Championships are by invitation only and will be held at Seven Springs during the first weekend of March.

The USSA Mogul Division within the Eastern Area is comprised of 3 Regions:

1) Eastern (ME,NH, N. VT)

2) Central (E. NY, S. VT, CT, MA)

3) Western (PA, W. NY, NJ, MD) and BMR is registered in the western region.

Athletes must register for a US Ski & Snowboard (USSS) membership to compete in mogul events. Competitors are scored using the official USSS criteria, which includes: Turns & Line Score, Air/Jump Score, and Speed Score, measured through electronic timing.

Our home training focuses on skiing moguls and performing acrobatic jumps in the terrain park. A major component of jump training emphasizes proper take-off, aerial awareness, and safe, controlled landings. Because athletes transition directly from jumps into a mogul field, clean and efficient transitions are critical for achieving higher competition scores.

We place strong emphasis on fundamental skiing skills, with consistent focus on pressure control, flexion and extension, balance, and proper stance. Athletes are continuously reinforcing the importance of staying stacked in order to maintain speed and control while preparing for upcoming jumps and landings.

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

The Mogul Team is always looking for new talent and we start training athletes at age 9 Thru U19.

We train from 9am - 2pm every Saturday and Sunday and usually go until Mid-March when Junior Championships are held.

This year the Regional Championship is being held at Loon Mountain, New Hampshire in Mid March and historically invites the regions Top 65 boys and Top 35 girls.

The Top regional athletes usually move up to “A” level who then participate in more advanced moguls/aerial training.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

More advanced training like Water Ramps and trampoline are encouraged and the Wendell Camps are great avenues to improve in this sport. Some of our current athletes have participated in the advanced training and the results shows.

The biggest compliment I have for  my past and current athletes is the amazing fact that these young athletes who have gone through our Mogul program have gone or are about to join well known academic programs, such as: Princeton, University of Maryland, University of Colorado, Kutztown University, Rutgers and Penn College!

As a Coach, knowing the dedication and effort of these young athletes while maintaining an outstanding grade point average is the biggest compliment our program can attain! To see successful positive young adults later on in years is the best way to continue a strong program atmosphere and retain quality talent. I’m hoping we can continue further inspire young athletes involved in this extremely difficult sport!
