PARA CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS
The PARA Board of Directors met earlier this past week to discuss a number of items surrounding ski racing in PA this season. Due to the continued concerns and precautions surrounding Covid-19 and the difficulties aligning race dates and venues, a number of PARA regions have canceled racing within their region or have limited venues and limited race dates for this season. There was a motion made to cancel the State Championships/Finals for all age groups this season and the motion passed on a 24-0 vote. Therefore, all PARA Championships/Finals will not occur for the 2020-2021 season.
We all know that United States Ski and Snowboard post-season events have restrictions and limitations also. If PARA is awarded quota spots at the U16 or U19 post-season events, those spots will be filled by the Age Group Chairs using the average of the athlete's SL and GS points from the points list published just prior to the event(s). Again, the Board of Directors voted 24-0 passing this motion.
These are difficult decisions being made but it is in the best interest of our PARA athletes, officials, course workers, and organizing committees.
Please stay safe,
David Bond
PARA President on behalf of the PARA Board of Directors.
