Congratulations to Paige Hughes, of Blue Mts Cross Team, for being selected to represent the United States in the FIS University World Games. The winter world University games is the largest winter multi-sport collegiate athletic event in the world. Over 50 different countries and 1443 athletes are competing over 11-days from January 12th – 22nd, in Lake Placid, NY.

The women’s snowboard cross event brought some of the world’s top riders from 9 different countries. Paige went up against riders like Sophie Hediger from Switzerland (ranked 34th in the world after her appearance in the 2022 Olympic Games) and Karen Fujita from Japan (ranked 47th in the world). She did amazing getting 10th in time trails and 9th overall.

The held a round robin with 5 different heats. Each heat giving the athlete either 4,3,2 or 1 point depending on how the placed. After heats were completed, she was tied for 7th with Karen Fujita from Japan and Kim Martinez from France. However, she ended up in 9th based their scoring tie breaker methods. She beat out other athletes like Vendula Buresova from Czech Republic who is ranked 48th in the world. Paige’s rankings are now 11th in the United States (Lindsey Jacobellis is #1) and 97th in the World.

SNOWBOARD AND SKI CROSS COMPETITION

Classifications vary depending on discipline and event. 

This program is designed for advanced skiers and snowboarders ages 10 -18 that are serious about competing.  In addition to ensuring that each athlete has solid skiing and riding skills, our experienced staff provides coaching for participants on jumps, rails, and ski cross/boardercross. 

 

We will compete in USASA events at Blue Mountain, at other local mountains, and regionally.

USASA MEMBERSHIP

To be in the Blue Mountain Snowboard Cross or Ski Cross Program you must be a member of United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA). Membership is required to compete in USASA sanctioned events. Applications/renewals can be completed online at www.usasa.org.

Training Dates: 

Saturdays & Sundays December * through February 

*Start date is dependent on Blue Mountain Ski Area opening date

 

Training Times:

8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

COST: 2022-2023 program TBA
